A Lancaster County man was charged with a felony this week after police said he was involved in a bar fight and left his 2-year-old son alone at home, while the child’s mother was giving birth at a hospital, court documents said.

Around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 15, New Holland police were sent to Shooters Crossing Bar and Grille, where they found Andrew Newsome, 32, unconscious on the ground.

Police said Newsome had been involved in a physical altercation. He was then taken to the hospital, but his condition is unclear.

About an hour later, just after 12:30 a.m. Aug. 16, officers were dispatched to Newsome’s home to check on the 2-year-old son who was home alone.

The boy’s mother was in the hospital giving birth when police were sent to the home.
