HARLINGEN, Texas (Border Report) -- Hunger, poverty, violence and lack of jobs are among reasons driving thousands of migrants from their homelands in Latin American countries north to the U.S. border.

In this episode of Border Report Live, correspondent Sandra Sanchez and host Rudy Mireles speak with Elaine Hernandez, who has lived in Honduras and Mexico and helped migrants in villages whose families have left for the U.S. border, and those who have returned penniless.

Hernandez overseas 19 South Texas counties for Rotary Club and is the 2019-20 Rotary Alumni Global Service Award winner.

She is a public health professional who served as director of Border Health with the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, and has worked with the Red Cross.
