The DVSA has unveiled a new MOT fraud plan with offenders risking £2,000 fines and an "immediate" suspension. These changes are important because they are designed to make MOT tests more comprehensive and better aligned with modern vehicles and safety standards, as well as significantly reduce MOT fraud.
Changes include ‘Images in Garages’. The trial to reduce ‘Ghost MOTs’ will require photos of the car in the test bay, the DVSA is taking steps to ensure that all vehicles are genuinely tested and safe for the road, and reduce the increasing instances of MOT fraud.
There will be stronger emissions checks, too. This ensures that polluting or poorly maintained cars are flagged, and that the MOT evolves in line with environmental targets.
