RICHMOND — Richmond police say an officer responding to a report of two aggressive dogs near Ralph Street Friday morning shot one of the animals.

The post says one of the dogs charged at an officer after already cornering a resident on her porch.

The officer reportedly tried "less-lethal" options to subdue the dog before using his gun to stop the attack. The post says children were nearby waiting for the school bus at the time.

Animal control is working to find the second dog that ran away during the incident. One man has been arrested.
