ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A north Georgia police officer is in critical condition after a shooting broke out at a house overnight.
The incident happened in McCaysville, a Fannin County city near the Tennessee border. The officer has not yet been identified.
“I ask that you please keep my department, the officer, his family, and his children in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time,” McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley said in a statement.
According to police dispatch, officers initially responded to a call about a suspicious car on Central Avenue at around 11 p.m. on Friday night. The officer was shot at a home in the 350 block of 1st Street.
It’s currently unclear how police ended up at the house. Nobody is in custody yet.
