For the past few years about this time, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has sent out news releases asking deer and upland game hunters to share observations of the wildlife they encounter in the field through online logs on the DNR website.
The news releases got me thinking about some of the things I’ve seen when roaming the fields and forests in the fall.
One of the strangest – and funniest – encounters I can recall occurred about three years ago, when I was heading up to the deer stand at the northern Minnesota getaway for an afternoon hunt with my crossbow.
Walking north as I approached the intersection of two township gravel roads – one of which goes by the yard – I saw a neighbor lady about 100 yards to the east heading my way.
She was walking a very large animal on
