A millennial woman was left in shock after hearing her mom's stories of walking home alone from school at just 6 years old.

In a post on Threads, 37-year-old Latryce (@trycewrites), who did not share her full name for privacy reasons, shared how her mom would walk home alone , make food for herself, and do her homework before her mother would come home.

"I am in disbelief about this," Latryce wrote. "She said she would have a key around her neck. I can't imagine a 6-year-old walking around by themselves. She said it was normal back then."

Her mother, Paulette, was born in 1964 and grew up in a working-class neighborhood, Latryce told Newsweek . "My mom's walk home was only a few blocks, but for a 6-year-old, it felt like a big responsibility," she said.
