A day care employee in South Carolina was arrested for a "disturbing" attack on a child at a Christian preschool, authorities said.

Gladys Rampersant, 75, was arrested on Thursday and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, the North Charleston Police Department announced . The alleged attack occurred in July.

"Detectives with the North Charleston Police Department's Special Victims Unit have arrested a daycare employee in connection with a case of alleged child abuse , regarding an assault on a child," the law enforcement agency said.
