Syracuse, N.Y. - An inmate at the Onondaga County Justice Center choked and bit a corrections officer Thursday afternoon, deputies said.

At approximately 1 p.m., Zhamir Wright, 29, was asked by two supervising sergeants to remove “cloth material” that was blocking a window into his cell, according to Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Thomas Newton.

When Wright was told he was violating facility policy, he placed his arm around one of the sergeants’ necks and bit the officer’s hand, Newton said.

Responding staff subdued Wright and he was placed under arrest.

The sergeant was brought to Upstate university Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Wright was charged with the following offenses, all of which are Class D felonies:
