YOUNGSTOWN — Several years ago, Jerry Nunziato began an effort to make sure the neighborhood of Smoky Hollow would remember all its veterans, a cause personal to his family.
“My brother is a Vietnam veteran that was injured in Vietnam, and we come from a long family of military,” Nunziato, a member of the Golden Eagle Club, told 21 News. “Sometimes we just forget what these men did.”
His work culminated Saturday morning in the unveiling of a new World War I memorial marker at Smoky Hollow Memorial Park, on the corner of Walnut Street and Rayen Avenue downtown. The Golden Eagle Club and nonprofit Youngstown CityScape hosted the event, revealing a tribute that bears the names of 13 Smoky Hollow men who served in WWI.
