Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick reckons the club's narrative has been changed by a finals debut that's left them wanting, and needing more.

After waiting 15 years to appear in an AFL finals series, the Suns got not one but two bites of September footy.

But after the sweet aftertaste of their one-point win over Fremantle last week it was all a bit sour in Saturday's 53-point defeat to Brisbane at the Gabba.

The Lions will play Collingwood at the MCG in a preliminary final, two years after the sides fought out a thrilling decider won by the Magpies.

Noah Anderson, in his first year as skipper, says the mauling at the hands of their Queensland rivals has to act as a learning experience and motivator for seasons ahead.

"We're not content with just playing finals this year," Anderson said
