JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A Metairie woman died overnight after a single-vehicle crash on the I-10 westbound Causeway Boulevard exit, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers say 49-year-old Selenta James was driving a 2022 Nissan Murano around 12:45 a.m. when the SUV veered off the road and into the grass. A Trooper on the scene noticed the vehicle and attempted to check on the driver, who appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency.

"While the Trooper was attempting to gain entry, the Murano suddenly accelerated forward and struck a concrete support pillar of the Causeway Boulevard overpass, police said.

James was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
