ZAPATA, Tex. (KGNS) - The Zapata County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about scams coming from Mexico.
The Sheriff’s Office says scammers are calling people claiming they have family members kidnapped or in police custody and asking for money or personal information.
If you receive one of these calls, do not give out personal information, hang up immediately and contact your family member to make sure that they are safe.
Then, report the incident to the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office.
They are also reminding the public about fake Texas DMV texts.
They say that the DMV, or any government agency, does not send out texts. As a reminder, do not click on links or reply to any texts that appear to be suspicious.
