MCKINLEY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The McKinley County Sheriff's Office is highlighting a team effort that helped relocate a black bear into the wilderness. Earlier this week, the sheriff's office posted photos showing a bear that had been spotted three times in just a day, north of Gallup.
Deputies say the black bear cub was found in the backyard of a residence, saying the bear knocked on the window of a resident's house and got startled. So, the bear then climbed into a juniper tree to fill up on berries.
Gallup and McKinley County Animal Control and the Navajo Nation Game Warden say they safely tranquilized the cub, brought it down from the tree, and caged it. He was released back into the wild in a safe location.
