A 27-year-old man was arrested about a mile away from were a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision occurred involving a bicyclist on the 4400 block of Carlsbad Blvd. at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from the City of Carlsbad.

The identity of the bicyclist who was killed is not being released at the moment pending family notification.

The driver who fled has been identified as Alexander Gendron of Escondido, by authorities. He has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

They say that the suspect was tracked down with the help of community members, Carlsbad's license plate readers, and a drone.

Authorities say that the northbound Carlsbad Blvd. between Tamarack Ave. and Cannon Rd. will remain closed for an unspecifie
