OMAHA, Neb. —

Catholic parishes here in the metro are hoping to raise concern about our responsibility to care for the Earth.

To do so, they hosted an event called the "Pilgrimage of Hope for Creation."

The pilgrimage is a national movement coinciding with the 10th anniversary of "Laudato Si'" — an encyclical, or teaching, written by the late Pope Francis.

" Laudato Si' is the first encyclical that a pope has written about creation, but this isn't the first time popes have tried to give awareness to the care for creation," said Fr. Dave Korth, pastor at St. Benedict the Moor and Sacred Heart parishes.

His letter talks about the beauty of God's creation and reminds readers of the great gift they have been given.
