OMAHA, Neb. —

The Greater Omaha Chamber is launching a $1 million fund, thanks to an anonymous donor, to help small businesses during streetcar construction.

For months, closed lanes on Farnam Street have slowed down business in the area. The grant will go to an estimated 50-60 small businesses in the area on Farnam, west of Turner Boulevard.

"We'll take any help we can get. This is going to be something big and beautiful in the future; it is a little bit stressful now, so I really appreciate the help from the city," Anne Ryalls, Wonderbowl bar manager, said.

Wonderbowl's owners said they will be participating in the funding. They say they've experienced a decrease in sales as construction occurs on their block.
