SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake grabbed a two-goal lead before hanging on in the closing minutes to earn three points in a 2-1 victory over SKC.
RSL (10-14-4, 34 points) hosted Sporting Kansas City (7-17-6, 27 points) at America First Field on Saturday, September 13.
First Half
Both teams sent shots wide in the opening minutes as each looked for an early spark.
Real Salt Lake committed four fouls in the first 12 minutes as they tried to set an aggressive tone.
The home team created a good opportunity in the 14th minute. Diego Luna found Victor Olatunji near the box, but the forward’s left-footed attempt came up empty.
SKC attempted a ball over the top in the 30th minute that was knocked away harmlessly by the Claret & Cobalt.
