A city initiative to boost public art in the community has a new leader.

City officials announced recently that Ashanti Chaplin has been named the new director of the city’s Office of Public Art and Community Partnerships.

Chaplin, who started in the role Sept. 8, will lead the city’s efforts to bring in more public art while also supporting the development of local artists, officials said.

She will oversee public art projects in collaboration with city departments and lead development of the city of Tulsa’s first creative arts master plan. She will also provide support and guidance to the Tulsa Arts Commission.
