WRIGHT COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) -What started as a small group of women bonding over loss has grown substantially.

A group of over 40 women meets in Wright County for a meal and community every few months, but there’s something that ties them all together.

Most of these women are widows.

Jan Kelly, the organizer of this group, saw a need for a dedicated community for widows in her area.

“My husband and I attend a small country church, and we were amazed at the number of widows in that congregation, so we decided we’re going to have them over for Sunday dinner. So, it started in our kitchen,” Kelly said.

Kelly said simply serving a meal was her way of trying to make the widows in her community feel seen and welcome.
