On Sept. 14, communities across Canada will hold the Terry Fox Run, an event to raise money for cancer research.
The run is an annual event in honour of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.
In 1980, Fox, who had lost a leg to cancer, began the Marathon of Hope. His goal was to cross Canada, running the equivalent of one marathon each day.
“I am not a dreamer, and I am not saying that this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer. But I believe in miracles. I have to,” Fox said before the legendary journey began.
Although the cancer returned and Fox was unable to complete his cross-Canada run, the spirit of this journey continues through the annual Terry Fox Run.
