SOUTH BEND — In addition to 16 scouts from a dozen NFL teams, five representatives from a trio of bowls (Cotton, Gator and Pop-Tarts), a pair of envoys from the Arkansas-based Broyles Award were at Notre Dame Stadium for Saturday night’s beer-soaked fireworks show.
Just seven months ago, they were glad-handing former Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden for his exemplary work in a 16-game run to the CFP national final. Golden, now back with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, is no longer eligible for the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top college football assistant.
