A Sudbury man found to have been drinking and charged with impaired driving at a traffic safety stop last year has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
“A lot of these (drinking and driving) cases end up in provincial offences court,” Ontario Court Justice Michael Harpur told Allain Legault via Zoom link, just before sentencing him. “Many of these cases end up in higher courts because of injury and property damage. You don’t need to be part of the problem due to the job you hold down.”

Legault, 45, received a sentence that consisted of a $1,000 fine and a 15-month probation order. Under the order, he must complete the education component of the province’s Back on Track program, and not drive with any alcohol in his sys
