OAKLAND — A man was wounded by a stray bullet in the Old Oakland district Sunday morning and is in stable condition at a hospital where he was being treated for a wound to his lower leg, authorities said.
The victim’s age and residence were not immediately available.
The shooting happened about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, near the intersection of Eighth and Washington streets, a block from police headquarters. Police said initial reports were that some other men had been in a physical confrontation that resulted in a struggle over a gun that went off. The errant bullet struck a man who was not involved in the confrontation.
What the men were arguing about is under investigation. No arrests have been announced.
The shooting comes just over a week after two men were killed and four others injured
