Traffic on the M60 has faced major delays in both directions over a "police incident" in a major Manchester derby alert.

The motorway was shut to traffic in both directions within Junction 23 at Ashton-under-Lyne. Manchester Road was also shut, with the incident reported shortly before 3pm. 16:30 KEY EVENT

Motorway reopens

The M60 has reopened in both directions, according to the National Highways has confirmed.

A spokesperson said: "The M60 is now OPEN within J23 Ashton-under-Lyne in both directions following a Greater Manchester Police-led Incident.

"Please allow extra time if travelling in the area as delays of 15 mins remain in both directions." 16:23 KEY EVENT
