A flood alert has been issued in Birmingham after the city was lashed by torrential rain this afternoon, Sunday, September 14.

Water levels were rising on the River Rea at Bournville's Woodbrooke Road river gauge "as a result of heavy rainfall".

The alert said flooding of roads and farmland was possible this evening and into Monday morning.

It went on: "Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.

"We expect river levels to remain high into Monday. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.
