LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Saturday night crash that left a motorcyclist from Lorain dead.

According to a news release from OSHP's Elyria Post, troopers responded to a crash between a motorcycle and a Mini Cooper on state Route 58 in Amherst Township around 10:45 p.m.

Troopers said the driver of the motorcycle was going north on state Route 58 at a high rate of speed. As it approached the Interstate 80 exit/entrance ramps, it failed to stop at the red light and collided with the Mini Cooper as it turned onto 58 from the exit ramp.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, troopers said. He has been identified as Shawn Edgell, 47, of Lorain.

The crash remains under investigation at this time
