SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - A South Salem house fire left one person dead and one person hospitalized early Sunday morning, according to the Salem Fire Department.
Fire crews were called to a home at 4455 Matthews Loop South around 6:23 a.m. after 911 calls. When firefighters arrived, the single-family house was already heavily on fire.
Crews rescued two people trapped inside under what officials described as extreme conditions. One victim died at the scene. The other was rushed to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes and did not spread to nearby homes.
About 35 firefighters responded, along with Salem Police and Portland General Electric. The damage is estimated to be about $300,000.
