SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - A 32-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car early Sunday in south Salem, police said.

Officers responded around 2:19 a.m. to the 4400 block of Commercial Street SE after reports that a person had been hit by a car, according to the Salem Police Department.

Investigators said a 2011 Mercedes SUV driven by Cameron Smith, 27, of Salem, was headed south when it hit Brittany Hochstetler, 32, of Salem, who was in the road just south of Hilfiker Lane SE.

Despite life-saving efforts by first responders and witnesses, Hochstetler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Smith stayed at the scene cooperated with police.

The crash remains under investigation.

This is Salem’s sixth deadly crash of the year, police said.
