Michigan got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating Central Michigan by a final score of 63-3. The Wolverines looked rather impressive on both sides of the ball, which is a pretty big departure from what we saw last week against Oklahoma. As such, the Wolverines made quite the rise in the latest edition of ESPN’s SP+ rankings.
For those of you who might be unfamiliar with SP+, it’s a ranking system made and tracked by Bill Connelly of ESPN. In the words of Connelly, it’s, “a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency – SP+ is intended to be predictive and forward-facing. It is not a résumé ranking – so it does not automatically give credit for big wins or particularly brave scheduling.”
