Virginia Tech has fired head football coach Brent Pry, sources confirmed to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Pry is expected to receive more than $6 million as part of his buyout agreement.
The decision comes just one day after a 45–26 home loss to Old Dominion, a game in which the Hokies were loudly booed by fans as they headed to the locker room at halftime. Saturday’s defeat dropped Virginia Tech to 0–3 on the season and 16–24 overall during Pry’s four-year tenure.
Pry’s job security had been a topic of concern dating back to November of last season. At the time, speculation swirled that a loss to rival Virginia could have led to a coaching change. However, a victory in that season finale secured Pry his second straight 6–6 regular season and a subsequent bowl appearance.
