MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Sunday at Midvale Community Lutheran Church looked and sounded a little different than usual.

Members swapped out their hymnals for hammers during the church’s ceremonial wall smashing to kick off a $4.1 million renovation process.

“You get to smash a wall in the name of Jesus Christ. I mean, that’s a pretty good deal,” said Billy Dean, one of the kids who will benefit from the new classrooms being built in the renovation. “It just feels like I’m growing with it.”

Leaders at the church say even though some church congregations are shrinking, their church is growing, and with it, the size of their building.
