Pueblo police say a robbery suspect brandished a knife when officers confronted him and began to stab himself after the authorities shot him.

Medics rushed the suspect to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a Sunday news release.

Officers were dispatched shortly after 8 a.m. to the 1100 block of Bonforte Boulevard for a report of a robbery. Police spotted the suspect in a vehicle near Eighth Street and Glendale Avenue, and a car chase ended when the suspect's vehicle crashed in the 700 block of West Eighth Street, the release stated.
