BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk has stirred up a lot of conversation around the current political divide between parties.

“I think the political climate is very toxic,” said Young Republican Federation of Alabama Chair Stephanie Petelos Nabavian. “I think the two sides are more partisan than ever.”

She said it has never been as divided as it is right now and she worries about where the country is headed if this continues. She remembers when people stood firm in their political beliefs and convictions, but could still have respectful dialogue.

Nabavian believes the solution moving forward is having strong leaders on both sides of the aisle who are willing to work together and set a new standard.
