TRUMBULL, CT. (WFSB) - Week one of the high school football season was filled with a lot of great games, but the best one might’ve been left for Saturday down in Trumbull.
Saint Joseph, the reigning Class M state champions, went head-to-head with Daniel Hand in a playoff rematch from last year.
The game was a back and forth battle the whole way, and the two teams were deadlocked at 21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Hand kicked a field goal early in final period, putting the pressure on St. Joe’s to respond.
Cadets quarterback H.T. Jones connected with wide receiver Jake Rios on a deep ball, putting the Cadets inside the Tigers five-yard line.
That big play and a quarterback sneak by Jones a few plays later gave St. Joe’s a 28-24 lead with 1:10 left in the game.
