The 77th Emmy Awards were Sunday night with comedian Nate Bargatze hosting. This year's ceremony had an added layer to it as winners attempted to keep their acceptance speeches short. Bargatze announced that he would be donating an amount of money to the Boys and Girls Club of America, starting at $100,000 and adjusting as the night went on.
For every second over the 45-second speech time limit, they would subtract $1,000 from the pot. For every second under, however, they'd add $1,000 to the amount Bargatze would have to donate at the end of the night.
After winning for Best Scripted Variety Series, John Oliver of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver made extra sure to keep his acceptance speech aggressively short. As he was wrapping up, however, CBS bleeped something out of the broadcast.
So what was it?
But the late night host had some choice words for Bargatze as he kept his speech very short.
"[Expletive] you, Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you," Oliver said. "And you can add a [expletive] to the swear jar as well," he added, referencing a swear jar joke from earlier in the evening.
A perfect use of swearing.
