Nate Bargatze ’ s Emmys bit resulted in a big payout.

The host’s ruse to get winners to keep their speeches short—promising to donate $100k to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but threatening to take away $1,000 for every speech that went over—may not have panned out, with the total in the negatives by the end of the evening. However, Nate had a backup plan : he confirmed onstage that CBS would be donating $100k to the organization, and that he’d personally put in $250k.

The $350k result, according to President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Jim Clark , was “incredible.”
