JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens (PIX11) — Is New York City doing enough to shut down the illegal brothels and stop sex workers from soliciting along Roosevelt Avenue?

One community group says no way, but the city says absolutely because they have seen a tremendous drop in crime in the area.

When Operation Restore Roosevelt first started in October 2024, community leaders say upwards of 250 cops would be patrolling Roosevelt Avenue in a crackdown on crime that lasted 90 days.

Now they say barely 20 cops are visible each day, so the brothels and street prostitutes, they say, are back in business, openly soliciting customers on Roosevelt Avenue, according to Democratic District Leader Hiram Monserrate.
