A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison over his involvement in a "truly shocking" and "incredibly violent" live streamed assault during a lockdown at a youth detention centre in Melbourne's north-west.
Earlier this month, the County Court of Victoria heard the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre was locked down when a group of at least seven detainees stole keys from a security guard and entered a restricted area in October 2023.
The group held staff members captive while they used sharpened broomsticks and a fire extinguisher as makeshift weapons to carry out an attack on fellow detainees, the court heard.
