ATLANTA — The Atlantic Coast Conference has fined Georgia Tech after its fans rushed the field following a massive upset win over No. 12 Clemson on Saturday.
Kicker Aidan Birr made a 55-yard field goal as time expired as he sprinted out on a fire drill attempt with the clock ticking down, and drilled it through the uprights.
Because it's the school's first fine, they will have to pay $50,000 as its first offender policy.
The ACC's event security policy is "designed to protect the safety and well-being of all student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans," a conference spokesperson said.
All fines collected under the policy are funded toward the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Fund, which benefits ACC student-athletes pursuing graduate education.
