ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – It's been five days of high-flying competition in Roswell, the new home of the National Championship Air Races. Organizers and pilots share how they're liking the new space.

Pilot Chris LaFave said when he's flying, he feels at home. "The feeling of being out there in these airplanes, the smell, the burning gas, the heat, the vibration, and being free to go in any direction I want," he says.

It's also highly competitive. LaFave says, "Vitaly [Pecherskyy] and I have been chasing each other back and forth for years."

Since 2017, LaFave and Pecherskyy have been going head-to-head in the National Championship Air Races in Reno. And Sunday, they battled it out for first in the T-6 gold race at their new home in Roswell.
