WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — A West Hartford business owner has noticed consignment stores becoming more popular as more people look for ways to save money.

Emily King is the owner of an antique shop called The White Rabbit, which has a diverse selection of clothes, shoes, bags and more. She said she saw an uptick of more people coming in from six years ago.

"People are very interested in consigning. People spend their money here and buy different clothes with the money that they earn from consignment, you get a rebate,” King said.

According to a Capital One Shopping report, last updated on Sept. 10, the thrift and resale market brought in $27 billion in 2020. This year, that number is expected to be $56 billion and in 2029, the market is expected to bring in $74 billion.
