Australia could face a future of unprecedented heatwaves, daily flooding, and threats to agriculture if urgent climate action is not taken, according to a new government report.
The National Climate Risk Assessment was released on Monday, ahead of the Albanese government’s planned 2035 emissions reduction target .
The report modelled scenarios of up to 3°C global warming, warning that risks to communities, property, and the economy were “very high or severe”.
It’s understood the government will use the report to justify its upcoming 2035 emissions reduction target, and subsequent investments in renewables.
