PHOENIX — A light rail train and a semi-truck crashed on Sunday, authorities say.

Phoenix police officers were called to a crash near 18th and Washington streets around 7:15 p.m. for a crash involving a light rail and a tractor-trailer. When officers arrived, the light rail and the truck were on fire.

Firefighters at the scene encountered heavy smoke and flames. The fire department said the crash caused the light rail to be de-energized, knocking out the power system.

The occupants were helped off, police said, and the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no other injuries reported.
