CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed on the city's North Side overnight after being approached by a group of eight unknown males, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Police say the victim was standing outside in the 5000 block of North Winthrop Avenue, in Uptown, around 12:15 a.m. Monday when he was approached by the group. One of the people in the group then took out a gun and fired in the victim's direction, hitting him multiple times in the body, according to police.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say nobody is yet in custody, and area detectives are investigating the incident.
