A historic property in need of restoration is now in Easton’s hands.
The City of Easton and Rock Church of Easton have reached an interim agreement that ends a months-long eminent domain case involving the historic Hooper House downtown.
City solicitor Jeremy Clark announced the resolution during Wednesday’s city council meeting , saying the two sides were scheduled to go to trial.
“On the eve of that trial, as is often the case, the parties actually managed to hammer out an agreement,” Clark said.
Under the terms, the city will pay $350,000 for the property. Clark said the agreement allows Easton to keep the Hooper House, an addition behind it, and the historic Timothy House. The city will subdivide the parcel so those structures are on a separate lot.
