GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Historical Society dedicated its newest historical marker at L.E. Ray Park on Friday to commemorate the flood of 1967.

The flood took place in June of that year, when rain fell in 17 of the 30 days. This led to floodwaters inundating 61 of Nebraska’s 93 counties, with Grand Island getting the most damage.

Between June 7 and June 15, 14 inches of rain fell and residents had to be evacuated because floodwater rushed into the city.

Hall County Historical Society Vice President, Michelle Setlik said the flood led to many changes across the area.
