Delays are expected through midday on South Shore passenger trains due to a pedestrian being struck early Monday by a Metra train near McCormick Place in Chicago.

Metra reported early Monday that inbound and outbound trains were being stopped in the wake of the collision.

"Extensive delays are anticipated," according to Metra.

The South Shore Line said in a subsequent alert that Metra had released trains to operate at restricted speed.

"Passengers on morning and midday South Shore trains may encounter delays due to track availability on Metra," according to the South Shore.

Delays of up to 45 minutes were being reported on South Shore trains.
