A Maine driver was killed Saturday night when they fled from police and crashed their vehicle, which then burst into flames.

Maine State Police said dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 9:30 p.m. Saturday reporting a vehicle operating erratically on Interstate 295 south in Richmond. Troopers located the vehicle, a gray Jeep Wrangler, in Yarmouth and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

During the stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Troopers gave chase, with emergency lights and sirens activated. As the Jeep came into view, it veered off the right side of the highway in Cumberland, crashing into the woods and bursting into flames.
