President Donald Trump’s administration is ending a proposal to require airlines to compensate air travelers for issues surrounding their flights. The proposal was put forward by former President Joe Biden’s administration, but never went into effect.

According to The Hill, the Department of Transportation announced earlier this month that the withdrawal is “consistent with Department and administration priorities.”

Airlines are required by law to refund passengers for flights that are canceled, but there are no requirements for reimbursement related to flight delays.

The plan to require reimbursements was first announced in 2023, with the Biden administration saying the rule was expected to go into effect in June 2024. However, the implementation was delayed several times.
